Anything from 14 to 30 days’ trekking, and aimed at the fit, experienced enthusiast. Sometimes more than 7 days consecutive walking but with rest days interspersed, and occasionally high pass crossings over 5000m. No more difficult than the previous grade, but there is more of it, together with the possibility of scrambling and glacier travel, and sometimes of optional trekking peaks, thus justifying the Vigorous grade. Possible camping above the snowline, where crampons, safety ropes and ice axes may need to be used, so experience of these is essential.
